I got a speeding ticket and I call BS.

I was on my way to Home Depot this morning and I was coming up on one of many intersections along the way (I was about 0.3 miles from it) when I noticed a state cop pulled over on the side of the road issuing a speeding ticket to some poor sucker. I slowed down (who doesn't when they see a cop car) and moved over to the left side of the road in accordance with the new emergency vehicle law. I passed the stopped cruiser and moved back to the right lane.  When I came out of the bend I saw two troopers running out into the middle of the road and one of them pointing at me to stop. I was quite surprised to find that none of the other cars around me were pulled over considering that we all were driving at roughtly the same speed. Once I stopped, the trooper came over and informed me that I was driving 70mph in a 55mph zone. I CALL BS. There is no f***ing way I was driving that fast especially where I had just passed another cop. I am definitely going to fight this ticket. Last citation I received I was clearly at fault running late to a meeting and indeed speeding. This time...NO WAY! I went back to the area after the cops had left and measured all the distances. The cop clocked me somewhere between 0.3 and 0.2 miles from the intersection. He (cop) was positioned at 0.2 miles form the intersection. When considering that the average stopping distance for my truck (Chevy Silverado) driving 70mph is 460 feet (almost 0.1 mile) I would have had to really slam my brakes in order to:
  • not run his ass over in the middle of the road
  • not blow past where he told me to stop
In addition, when I asked to see the readout on his lidar (that's an interesting name considering someone here lied) he refused and did not give me a reason why. I once again call BS.

If you count the cop on the side of the road there were four of them hiding in the bushes. Hey, I understand the game...month-end is coming up so they need to "improve" their numbers. Still, I will not let them screw me over without a fierce fight. I am going to have photos, diagrams and speed/distance calculations by the time I am due in court.

Oh, I am pissed.
